I was pretty skeptical at first because I expected this thing to just move around on the ground. However, it is very stable and the base is thick enough to hold a fair amount of water making it relatively heavy. So it works great when I practice alone and it also works great for playing in a small area with a partner.

Fill It, Set It Down, Start Hitting

Short clips of this trainer in use, from filling the base at the sink to hitting on open pavement. Nobody is tossing the ball back in any of them. The elastic cord pulls it back.

No Partner? No Problem.

No Partner? No Problem.

Open play happens when everyone can make it. Practice can happen whenever you can.

Most of us learned the game the same way: round up a group, find a court, wait for a spot, play a few games, go home. The hard part is the days in between. A friend cancels, the courts are full, or it rains all week. Your game gets better when you hit balls, and on most days there is nobody around to hit with. With this kit you do not need anyone. The base sits on the ground, the ball is on an elastic cord, and the ball you hit comes back to you.

  • "I often struggle to find someone to play with"
  • "I don’t always have someone to play with but want to play really bad."
  • "Like the practice; No one yelling at me that I missed or called out the wrong score."
How the Ball Comes Back

How the Ball Comes Back

A weighted base, an elastic cord and a ball. Nothing to plug in and nothing to charge.

Fill the base with water or sand through the screw cap and set it on a hard, flat surface. Clip the cord on with the swivel, step back and hit the ball firmly. It flies out, the cord stretches, and then it pulls the ball back toward you for the next swing. The swivel lets the cord turn as the ball spins, which cuts down on twisting, and the pads underneath help the base grip smooth concrete. You spend the session hitting instead of chasing balls.

  • Fill with water or sand through the screw cap
  • Non-slip pads help the base stay in place
  • Swivel clip lets the cord turn, so it twists less
  • A spare ball on its own cord
Secretly Get Better Than Your Friends

Secretly Get Better Than Your Friends

A few minutes of practice, a few times a week, before your next game.

On the court you hit a shot, wait, chase a ball and wait for the next point. At home you can hit the same shot again and again until it feels right, and spend time on the side you tend to avoid. Warm up for ten minutes in the driveway before you head to open play. Empty, the base weighs next to nothing, so it rides along in the car too. Nobody is watching, so it is fine to miss. Then show up next week and let your friends wonder what changed.

  • No chasing balls between shots
  • Low returns keep your knees bent
  • Easy to take along when it is empty
  • "It forces me to move my feet."

How to Set It Up in Three Steps

Fill it, clip it, hit it.

Fill the Base

Fill the Base

Unscrew the cap, fill the base with water or sand, and screw the cap back on tight. Sand makes it heavier for hard hitters.

Set It Down and Clip In

Set It Down and Clip In

Put the base on a hard, flat surface with open space in front. Unwind the cord and clip it on with the swivel.

Hit Firm, a Little Upward

Hit Firm, a Little Upward

Hit the ball firmly and a little upward, straight out over the base. The cord pulls it back toward you for the next swing.

Everything About the At Home Kit

What is in the box, how to hit, how to look after the cord, and who it suits.

What's In The Box

One blue weighted base with non-slip pads on the bottom and a screw cap for filling. Two yellow pickleballs, each on its own elastic cord. One anti-tangle swivel clip that joins the cord to the base. The swivel, the anti-slip kit and the spare Infinity Ball are the 3 free gifts in every pack. There is no paddle in the kit, so bring the one you already play with.

Hitting Tips

Stand a few steps back from the base and hit the ball firmly and a little upward, straight out over the base. Soft taps die on the way back and sideways shots come back at an angle, so aim straight. Start with easy forehands until you find the rhythm, then add backhands and serves. The ball comes back low, so stay down and keep your feet moving. If it keeps landing short, hit a little harder. One player found that a gently sloping driveway sends the ball back a little higher.

Care and Storage

After you play, wind the cord back into the groove on the base so it does not tangle in storage. Check the knot at the ball and the clip at the base before each session, and pull the knot tight if it looks loose. Elastic ages faster in hot sun, so keep the kit in the garage or a closet between sessions. Empty the water before freezing weather so the base does not crack. If a cord wears out, the spare ball on its own cord gets you straight back to hitting.

Who It's For

Beginners and kids get the most out of it: they swing again and again without anyone chasing balls. Grandparents use it to play with the grandkids in the driveway. Regular players use it to warm up before open play and to work on a stroke between games. It is not a substitute for dinking at the kitchen line, and it does not replace a partner. It fills the days in between.

Questions People Ask Before They Buy

Soft shots, walls, the cord, indoor use and setup.

Is it good for dinks and soft shots? +

It is built for reps: drives, serves, footwork and a warm-up before you play. Soft dinks are harder, because the cord pulls the ball down and back toward the base, so keep your dinking practice for the court.

Why not just hit against a wall? +

A wall works if you have one: smooth, tall, with flat pavement in front of it and nothing breakable nearby. Most homes do not have that. The trainer needs only a hard, flat strip of ground, and a missed ball stays on its cord instead of rolling into the street.

Will the cord tangle? +

It can twist, mostly when you put a lot of spin on the ball or play in a tight space. The swivel clip lets the cord turn, which helps, and a bigger open area helps more. If it starts to coil, stop and straighten it before it knots.

What if the cord breaks or the ball comes off? +

The elastic cord is the part that wears, which is why the kit comes with a second ball on its own cord. Check the knot at the ball before you play and pull it tight. If anything fails in your first 60 days, email help@getnorvyn.com and we will refund you.

Can I use it indoors? +

Outdoors on a hard, flat surface works best. Indoors, only in a big clear space such as an empty garage or basement, with gentle hits and nothing breakable nearby. Children should play with an adult nearby and keep clear of the cord.

How long does setup take? +

A few minutes the first time: fill the base, screw the cap on, and clip the cord to the base with the swivel. After that you set it down and play. Each ball comes on its own cord, so switching to the spare is quick.
